A New Era for Golf del Sur
An ambitious renovation transforming Golf del Sur into an international benchmark for design, sustainability and playing experience.
In 2024 we launched an ambitious and comprehensive renovation to transform Golf del Sur into an international benchmark for design, sustainability and playing experience. The project is led by Manuel Piñero and the engineering team of Target Ingenieros.
The overarching aim is to recover the original environment and restore the essence of a landscape deeply integrated with the San Blas Natural Reserve — while bringing every aspect of the course up to the highest modern standards.
This is not a cosmetic refresh. It is a generational investment in the future of golf in the Canary Islands.
The renovation is led by Manuel Piñero — Ryder Cup legend and the original architect of Golf del Sur — alongside Gonzalo Millán and the engineering team of Target Ingenieros.
Together they are overseeing the construction of 18 new greens and the reshaping of each green area, restoring the strategic challenge and precision that made Golf del Sur legendary.
All 18 existing greens are fully open and in play. This summer, construction begins on 5 brand-new greens in new areas of the course — expanding and elevating the playing experience across the entire layout.
Every decision is guided by our commitment to the San Blas Natural Reserve. Water-efficient irrigation, native planting and renewable energy are at the heart of the project.
From the first tee to the 18th green, every element has been reconsidered — new tees, improved bunkers, new greens — to deliver the best possible round for every golfer.
All 18 greens are currently open and in excellent playing condition. This summer, 5 completely new greens will be constructed in new areas of the course, further enhancing the strategic challenge and playing quality that made Golf del Sur legendary. The fairways themselves are not being altered; the transformation is focused entirely on the green complexes and their surrounding areas.
New Durabunker bunkers bring dramatic white-sand contrasts to the landscape, while the new Bermuda grass tees are already complete — firm, level and playable at a wide range of distances for every category of golfer.
9 holes are currently open and in play while new greens are being built in the remaining areas of the course.
